Some stories aren’t meant to feel polished or scripted...

They're meant to feel real

That’s what drew me to Bri’s story. As a filmmaker and photographer, I’m always most interested in capturing honest moments. The kind that feel human, emotional, and authentic instead of overly produced.

When Bri shared her story, it wasn’t just about creating a video. It was about creating space for vulnerability, reflection, and truth.

My Approach to Testimony and Documentary Filmmaking

A lot of testimonial videos today feel overly rehearsed. Perfect lighting. Perfect answers. Perfect delivery. But the stories that actually connect with people usually aren’t perfect at all. Sometimes my job is to tell stories of imperfect people. These are the stories we often relate with the most. (Trust me, I still love great lighting!)

My approach to filmmaking is heavily rooted in documentary storytelling. Whether I’m filming a testimony video, church story, brand film, wedding, or promotional content, I try to create an environment where people can simply be themselves.

That means:

•minimal pressure

•natural conversation

•emotional honesty

•patient listening

•authentic visuals over forced moments

With Bri’s story, I wanted the filming process to feel safe and conversational rather than performative. Some of the most powerful moments came from pauses, emotions, and reflections that couldn’t have been scripted beforehand.

As a filmmaker, I believe authenticity is what makes people feel something.

And when people feel something, they remember it.

Bri’s Story: From Anxiety and Depression to Hope

Bri shared openly about struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, and feeling lost for much of her life.

After losing her job during COVID, life became even more difficult. She described falling into unhealthy habits, partying, and eventually facing an unexpected pregnancy during a season where she felt completely overwhelmed.

One of the most emotional parts of her testimony came when she shared how everything changed after discovering her son had survived against overwhelming odds.

That moment ultimately led her toward faith, healing, and eventually baptism alongside her family.

What impacted me most while filming wasn’t just the events themselves — it was the honesty in the way she told them. There was no performance. No trying to sound polished. Just honesty. That’s the kind of storytelling I’m passionate about documenting.

Why Authentic Storytelling Matters in Video Production

Whether I’m working with churches, nonprofits, businesses, couples, or personal brands, I think audiences connect most deeply with authenticity.

People are drawn to real emotion, genuine reactions, meaningful moments, and stories that feel human.

That’s why I approach filmmaking less like a commercial production and more like documenting real life as it unfolds.

For testimony videos specifically, trust matters. Creating a calm environment allows people to open up naturally, which almost always leads to stronger and more emotionally impactful storytelling.

Documentary-Style Filmmaking for Churches, Brands, and Personal Stories

One thing I love about documentary filmmaking is that it translates across so many different types of projects. The same approach I use filming testimony stories also shapes how I photograph weddings, create church media, produce promotional films, and document real-life moments for clients.

My goal is never to manufacture emotion, it’s to notice it and to document it honestly. To create films and photographs that still feel meaningful years later because they captured something genuine.

The Role of Video in Sharing Stories That Matter

Testimony videos like Bri’s remind me why storytelling is powerful.

A well-crafted film can:

•help people feel understood

•preserve meaningful memories

•inspire others

•communicate emotion more deeply than words alone

•create connection

For businesses and organizations especially, testimony videos are one of the most impactful ways to communicate mission, community, and transformation.

And for individuals, these films often become something deeply personal that lasts far beyond the moment itself.
